Countertenor Bryan Pollock has performed in over eighteen fully-staged operatic productions with lead roles such as Refugee from Jonathan Dove’s Flight, Giulio Cesare from Händel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Oberon from Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Orfeo from Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice.  His recent performances include the role Truman Capote in the world premiere of Eric Sawyer’s The Scarlet Professor, Cardinal/Oracle 1 from Glass' Galileo Galilei with Des Moines Metro Opera and the role of Arsamene from Händel’s Serse with the Mallarmé Chamber Players in Chapel Hill, NC.  "Bryan Pollock (Cardinal 1/Oracle 1) has an easily produced countertenor which he was able to vary in tone from reedy warmth to edgy body" from Opera Today.  "Counter-tenor Bryan Pollock as Arsamene was outstanding, dominating the stage with a magnificent, strong voice” from the CVNC.  As Belize from Eötvös’ Angels in America he “chewed the scenery hilariously and sang with demented energy" from the Boston Music Intelligencer.  Additionally, he has performed in a variety of choral venues featured in Händel's  Messiah, Bach's Magnificat, and Bernstein's Chichester Psalms.

 

Dr. Pollock is native of Snow Hill, NC and earned degrees in voice performance from East Carolina University (BM), the University of California Irvine (MFA), and Boston University (DMA).  In 2009 he studied abroad in Florence and Austria where he completed the Canta in Italia and Franz-Schubert-Institut summer programs.  In 2014 he performed with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival.  In 2015 he was an Apprentice Artist with Opera Saratoga.  Last summer he was an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera.

 

He currently teaches collegiate voice at Bunker Hill Community College and general music for Weston Public Schools.
